Xbox Live Is Back Online, Microsoft Says, but Some Players Want Compensation

Finn Gomez/The Boston Globe/Getty Images It was a bad Monday for Xbox Live gamers. The gaming platform experienced about 20 hours of issues that prevented gamers from using it. According to the Xbox Live Status page, the problems ranged from sign-in issues to difficulty viewing games in the Xbox store. Some players were able to start playing games, but were abruptly disconnected. Around 4 p.m. PT on Monday, Xbox Live was back up and running, a Microsoft representative told CNET in an email. “Good news — the earlier Xbox issue should now be mitigated,” the official Xbox Support account on X posted Monday evening. “You should once again be able to launch games, sign in, and complete purchases. Thanks for sticking with us through a long one.” The Xbox Live X account posted numerous updates throughout the day, but none provided specifics on what went wrong or offered a timeline for a fix. Early access to the game began Thursday, but because of the outage, those players missed almost a full day of that access. “What the hell caused this?” wrote one user responding to the X post. “People need answers. Nearly an entire 24 hours of being unable to access paid content is not acceptable from a company like Microsoft.” Another person wrote, “Are we being reimbursed? Many of us lost a full day of paid for Early Access for Halo. Some of us lost multiple days from the outage that occurred just a few days ago during Halo’s launch. If not… Why? How is this acceptable? It’s always the player that absorbs the loss.” The Microsoft representative didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment about the players seeking compensation.
