‘Beyond the GPU’ video series: What to expect from theCUBE’s July 23 coverage

‘Beyond the GPU’ video series: What to expect from theCUBE’s July 23 coverage

When Advanced Micro Devices Inc. held its earnings call in May, Chief Executive Lisa Su told analysts that the current ratio of 4.5 GPUs to 1 CPU will compress toward 1 to 1 as AI agents and inference workloads require more CPU support.
Numbers such as these point to a number of factors that go beyond the shifting balance between CPUs and GPUs. The real challenge for enterprises will be building systems that can keep up with agentic workloads, growing data demands and the economics of AI at scale.
“The faster you can get on the AI curve, the more AI projects you’re going to be able to enable, you’re going to create a flywheel,” said theCUBE Research Chief Analyst Dave Vellante. “And that’s going to drive a 10x delivery of productivity, or else we’re all dreaming — and I don’t think we’re dreaming here. We are entering a new era. I think we all believe that, we can see that.”
The growing importance of storage, networking and open ecosystems will be a central focus of the “Beyond The GPU: The Full-Stack Fight for Enterprise AI” exclusive video series from theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, on July 23. In this special interview series, industry leaders from Supermicro, AMD, Vast Data, TensorWave and Crusoe will discuss what it takes to build the next generation of enterprise AI infrastructure. (* Disclosure below.)
Platform for inference workloads
The challenge confronting many IT infrastructure companies today is to develop new approaches that enable faster data retrieval and support the growing need for AI systems to process and retain larger amounts of relevant information needed to run inference workloads. For firms such as Supermicro, this means expanding their AI and infrastructure portfolios with new edge AI and high-performance computing platforms.
Last month, the company introduced its DCBBS Blueprint for HPC based on Nvidia Corp.’s Vera Rubin NVL4 platform. The offering supports configurations of up to 1,152 Nvidia Rubin GPUs and 576 Nvidia Vera CPUs, with liquid cooling and Nvidia Quantum-X800 InfiniBand networking, scalable from 3.2 MW to 1GW.
Supermicro also announced an edge computing lineup with Intel Core processors and Arc Pro B-series GPUs, and it launched Kubernetes Edge AI appliances built with Red Hat and Everpure earlier this month. Moves such as these illustrate ways that key technology providers are building the full stack for enterprise AI, a transformation that will reshape how most businesses are going to be run in the future. This will be a central part of the discussion in theCUBE’s interview series.
“Think about your data strategy, because that’s going to be a fundamental part of getting on that AI curve,” Vellante noted. “This transition is going to impact your entire organization, every department, the way you’re organized. You need to think about that. That’s where the value is.”
